Port City Java - Market Street location

2099 Market Street

Google Maps

Location
***
Market Street is a major access road to get you from one end of town to the other. So if you are coming/going to downtown this is a good location for you. But, really, you could drive a couple more miles and be in a more scenic area.

Parking
*****
Large parking lot with plenty of spots

View
*
Next to the hussle and bustle of Market Street

Wifi Strength
****
No issues with connectivity. The only issues I had were dropped calls on my Verizon phone. No bars for me along this pocket of Market Street.

Comfort
**
If you are lucky enough to score one of the three booths, you will be quite comfy. There are a couple of easy chairs and half a dozen tables. We moved to a booth once one opened. Folks here are very likely to hunker down, so don't expect a lot of table/booth turn-over.

Distraction Level
***
This is a very busy location. Great for PCJ business, not so great if you want a quiet spot.

Outlet availability
****
There are plenty of outlets if you need to recharge your battery or phone.

Service/Staff
***
Most of the many times I have been here the staff is very friendly. This morning, the gal taking our order seemed to take out her bad mood on her customers. We'll give it a pass this time, but perhaps she should just stick to the less customer facing drive-thru.

Outdoor options
****
Plenty of outdoor seating if you want to work outside.

Price

***
$4+ for flavored coffees, espresso drinks

Food Choice
Standard coffee-house fair - muffins, wraps. Their coffee cake is our fave.

Hours
Opens at 6am

Special Notes
This PCJ location is definitely not going to win the "white glove test". Lots of dust, scuffs, and scratches around the room. For its "flagship" location, given its location next to the corporate office (though they just relocated), you would think they'd at least give it a much-needed paint job.

Cafe del Mar - Wrightsville Beach, NC

Cafe del Mar is located on Wrightsville Beach right as you come over the south bridge, adjacent from Wings. It shares space with the yummy Tower 7.

Location
****
Easy to get to from most parts of Wilmington and nice to be able to stroll the beach on a break.

Parking
***
Free parking in back.
Convenience of parking is great, especially considering it is Wrightsville Beach and metered spots can be avoided. The drawback is there are only a handful of spots.

View
*
No view. Decent people watching along Lumina.

Wifi strength
*****
Fast, free and available. No latency at all.

Comfort
***
If you can get a seat on the bench at the tables up front, it's decently comfortable. The high top tables in the back are not comfortable for long periods.

Distraction level
**
Lots of folks in and out to pick up a latte. Lumina is pretty busy so drive-by traffic can be distracting. Watch out for the 9am hour in high season - the lifeguards flock the place to get their caffeine fix before heading out to save our lives. While not a bad distraction, impossible to concentrate on spreadsheets when the place is packed with un-shirted dudes.

Outlet availability
****
There are plenty of outlets all along the wall in the back. The drawback is there is only one up front with the comfy seats.

Service/staff
*****
Always perfectly friendly.

Outdoor options
**
We'll give it a ** because there are picnic tables but I wouldn't want to work out there. It's clean and pleasant for a bite but not meant for plugging in.

Price
****
Very fair prices. $5-7 for a drink and breakfast. Can get lunch in for about $10-15.

Food choice
****
Breakfast burritos and biscuits are killer. Can pop over to Tower 7 for a delicious baja mexican lunch.

Hours
*****
Open for breakfast and lunch. Mid-morning is a great time to plug in as it's much more chill.

Special Notes
Apparently dogs are welcome because it seemed like every other patron brought their pooch in with them.
